Free Signature Generator

Draw your signature with a mouse or your finger, or type your name and pick a handwriting style. Download it as a transparent PNG, then use the steps below to put it where you need it. Nothing you draw or type leaves your browser.

The PNG is cropped to your signature and has a transparent background, so it sits on any page color.

How to add your signature to Word, Google Docs, Gmail or a PDF

Download the PNG first. Every app below takes it as an ordinary image, and because the background is transparent, the ink sits on the page with no white box around it.

Microsoft Word
Insert > Pictures, then pick the PNG. To make it one click next time, save it as AutoText with your typed name and title (Insert > Quick Parts).
Google Docs
Insert > Image > Upload from computer, then pick the PNG.
Gmail
Settings > See all settings, then the Signature section. Add the image in the signature box. The image counts toward Gmail's 10,000-character signature limit, so keep it small.
A PDF
In Adobe Acrobat Reader, choose Fill & Sign and insert an image of your signature. On a Mac, Preview can also add a signature to a PDF, which you capture with your trackpad, the built-in camera or an iPhone or iPad.

If the signature image looks too big, shrink it in the document rather than drawing it smaller, so it stays sharp.

Draw or type?

Draw it if you can. A drawn signature is your own handwriting; a typed one is your name in a font anyone else can pick too. Sign the way you sign on paper, big and in one go, and use Undo for a stroke that went wrong rather than starting over. If a trackpad gives you shaky lines, try a mouse, or open this page on your phone and use your finger.

Type when you want a signature that looks exactly the same every time, or when your drawing just won't come out right. Try your name in all five styles before you pick one: one looks like a quick pen scrawl, another like a wedding invitation.

How the generator makes the PNG

Your browser does all the work. It smooths drawn strokes into curves, or sets a typed name in the font you pick. The PNG is bigger than it looks on screen (a drawing is saved at three times its size), so it stays sharp when you print it. It's cropped to your ink with a small margin, and everything around the ink is transparent.

The five handwriting styles are Dancing Script, Great Vibes, Caveat, Allura and Sacramento. They cover the accented letters of French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, Czech and Turkish, such as é, ü, ñ, ł and ş. If your name has a letter from outside the Latin alphabet, such as a Cyrillic or Greek letter, the tool tells you and shows that letter in a plain font.

A signature image or a signed document

A PNG of your signature is a picture. That's fine for a letter, a form you print, or your email footer, where you're the one signing and the one putting it there. But anyone who has the file can paste it too, and the document doesn't record who placed it there or when.

So when you need someone else's signature, don't email them a file and ask them to paste theirs in. Send the document for signing instead. That's what we built DocsAutomator e-signatures for: each signer gets an email, signs on any device without an account, and the finished PDF comes back with a certificate and a tamper-evident seal.

Send contracts and quotes for signature from your data

If the names, prices and terms already live in a spreadsheet, a database or a chat with your AI assistant, DocsAutomator fills in the document and collects the signatures for you.

  • You design the contract once as a Google Docs or Word template, and each record from Airtable, Google Sheets or your AI agent fills in a new one.
  • Several people can sign at the same time or one after another, and you see who has signed.
  • Quotes and proposals can be accepted with one click instead of signed.
  • Signing is included in every plan. A signed document counts as one document, however many people sign it.

Testing is free and needs no credit card. Test documents carry a watermark. See pricing for plans.
