Softr E-Signatures

Get agreements signed from your Softr portal

A member clicks a button in your Softr app. The agreement is written from their record and signed from an email, and the signed PDF link comes back to the member through your own Softr workflow.

Why Softr portals sign with DocsAutomator

From a portal button to a sealed PDF

One click in your portal

A Softr workflow starts it, from a button or a record change.

The agreement is written for you

The member's details fill your Google Docs or Word template.

A sealed PDF with proof

A certificate page records who signed, when and from where.

How to send a document for signature from Softr

Set it up once. Every click creates the agreement, sends it and files the signed PDF.

  1. 1

Add a signature tag to your template

Write the membership agreement in Google Docs or Word. Type {{esign.signature_1}} where the member signs and {{esign.date_1}} for the date.

  2. 2

    Choose who signs

Create an automation with Softr as the source and turn on Signing. Take the member's email from a placeholder such as {{member_email}}, or set a fixed address.

  3. 3

Send the signed PDF back to Softr

Create a Softr workflow with a Webhook trigger and paste its URL as the automation's webhook. Its Update record step saves the link on the member.

  4. 4

Add the DocsAutomator action in Softr

In a Softr workflow, for example one started by a button on the member page, add the DocsAutomator action and select this automation.

  5. 5

    Map the member's fields

Fill each placeholder from the member's record, the email and the record ID included. The test data from DocsAutomator shows every name to fill.

  6. 6

    The member signs

The member gets an email and signs on a phone or a computer, without an account. The sealed PDF with its certificate goes to the places you turned on.

  • DropboxA copy for teams that file in Dropbox
  • Completion emailTo the member and to your front desk
  • Documents pageEvery signed agreement in DocsAutomator
The link reaches the member record through your own Softr workflow.

The signed PDF back on the member

One Softr workflow, set up once, closes the loop.

Back on the record, through your own workflow

Your workflow in Softr
  1. DocsAutomatorPosts signedPdfUrl, the signers and their values to your webhook URL.
  2. 1. Webhook triggerA Softr workflow starts when the message arrives.
  3. 2. Find the memberUse the record ID you sent with the request.
  4. 3. Update recordSave signedPdfUrl in a Signed agreement field.

DocsAutomator does not write into Softr itself. The Webhook trigger needs the Softr Professional plan or above, and Update record works on Softr Databases. Continue only when signedPdfUrl is present, because the webhook also receives the other signing events.

What to check in an e-signature tool for Softr

Five things a member portal needs from a signing tool.

  • Starts from your portal. A button or a workflow in Softr should send the document, not a second tool.
  • The signer from your data. The member's email should come from the record, not be typed again.
  • The signed PDF where you keep files. Each signed membership filed for you, with nothing to download by hand.
  • Templates your team can edit. Google Docs, Word or PDF, so the people who own the wording keep editing it.
  • Proof on every PDF. A certificate and an audit trail that record who signed, when and from where.

DocsAutomator has helped our company tremendously with invoice issuing automation. We use Airtable and built-in extensions there have many limitations that prevented us from creating beautiful informative invoices.
