Switching from Docmosis doesn't mean rebuilding your templates. You keep the Word file and retype the tags: fields, repeating rows and conditions each have a DocsAutomator placeholder. And the same API call that fills the template can also send it for an e-signature or a one-click Accept.
| In your template | In DocsAutomator | In Docmosis |
|---|---|---|
| A field | {{client_name}}, in body text, headings, headers, footers or table cells. | <<client_name>> |
| A table row that repeats | Mark the row with {{line_items_1}}. | <<rr_items>> … <<er_items>> |
| A block that repeats | {{line_items_1}} … {{/line_items_1}}, each in its own paragraph. Nests up to three levels. | <<rs_items>> … <<es_items>> |
| A section that shows or hides | {{section_vip}} … {{/section_vip}}. The rule (equals, contains, greater than, is empty) is set in the automation, not the template. | <<cs_isVip>> … <<es_isVip>> |
| Math and formatting | No math in the template. Send the computed value in your JSON, or use line-item totals. Number, currency and date formats are set by locale. | Expressions in the tag, with 40+ math, logic and formatting functions. |
| An image | {{image_field}}, filled from a field and sized to the placeholder. | A bookmark in the template, filled with Base64 data, a stored image, or a URL that Docmosis support whitelists. |
Change the tags and the rest of the template stays as it is. Math moves into your data. More on line items and conditional sections.
Upload the same .docx as a Word template. Its fonts, tables, headers, footers and page breaks carry through to every document.
Docmosis's template FAQ says DOCX files exported from Google Docs "will typically perform poorly as templates". With DocsAutomator the Google Doc is the template, so whoever owns the wording edits it there, and your API call doesn't change.
Move your most-used template first and keep the rest on Docmosis until you're ready. The call changes like this:
POST https://api.docsautomator.co/createDocument
Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY
{
"automationId": "YOUR_AUTOMATION_ID",
"data": { "client_name": "Acme Ltd" }
}POST https://us1.dws4.docmosis.com/api/render
{
"accessKey": "YOUR_ACCESS_KEY",
"templateName": "quote.docx",
"outputName": "result",
"outputFormat": "PDF",
"data": { "client_name": "Acme Ltd" }
}Name each placeholder after its old tag and your data keys don't change. If the automation has signing or Acceptance switched on, this call also sends the document. The recipient signs, or clicks Accept without an account, and the signed PDF goes to Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox or back to the record. More on the REST API.
If you'd rather not retype the tags yourself, we'll do it. Our done-for-you setup moves your templates, signers and signing flows over. It costs $499 once with a yearly plan, and the yearly Scale plan includes it.

Before I discovered Docsautomator, generating reports from Airtable was a time-consuming task that drained both my time and energy. However, Docsautomator changed everything and made the process feel effortless.

As a botanical garden operator staffed by volunteers, DocsAutomator has revolutionized our document generation process. This powerful tool seamlessly integrates with our Airtable databases, allowing us to effortlessly create a wide range of docs!
I had a complex process with Airtable and Fillout I was trying to work out and an Airtable consultant told me about DocsAutomator as a much better alternative to Airtable's Page Designer for external documents. She also said Rupert was very helpful.
