DocsAutomator vs. SignWell

Say a row in your sheet reads Harbor Dental, annual plan, starts November 1, with three services listed on the Services tab. In SignWell, those values fill boxes you placed on a contract you uploaded, and the text around the boxes is the same for every client. In DocsAutomator, the row writes the contract, then sends it for signature.

  • The wording stays as you uploaded it.
  • Fields you placed ahead of time get the values: Harbor Dental, Annual, Nov 1, 2026.
  • The services go into text fields you placed for them.
  • A signature field for the Client placeholder.

What a SignWell template is made of

  • The file you upload: a PDF or Word file, or a Google Doc, which SignWell converts to a PDF copy. Later changes in Google Drive don't carry over.
  • Placeholders for each signer role, such as Client. A document sent from the template needs a recipient for each one.
  • Fields you place on the page: text, date, signature, initials and checkbox.
  • Conditional rules, on the Business plan: up to 10 per document, showing, hiding or requiring fields based on what the signer does.
  • Extra files, added after the template's own pages.

In DocsAutomator, your Google Doc or Word file is the template, and it stays there, where you already edit the wording. Placeholders sit right in the text. A section shows or hides based on the row's values, such as equals, contains or greater than. Line items come from another tab in Google Sheets, or from linked records in Airtable and Notion, nested up to 3 levels deep. Signature, date, text and checkbox fields are tags in the same file, and the signers' names and emails come from the row.

How a row gets to SignWell

  • Typed in. Someone picks the template in SignWell's app and fills in the recipients and fields. Paid plans send unlimited documents this way.
  • Bulk send. Upload a CSV of up to 500 recipients a batch. Its columns fill labeled text fields.
  • Zapier or the API. SignWell names QuickBooks Online and Close as its native integrations and reaches other apps through Zapier. Its Zapier action Create Document From Template counts as an API document, billed on top of the plan after the first 25 a month.

We connect to Google Sheets, Notion and Airtable directly. In Google Sheets, we check for new rows every 5 minutes and make a contract for each one. The signed PDF lands back in the row or in Google Drive, and a webhook lets your other tools know. More on e-signatures.

100 contracts a month from Google Sheets

SignWell, each one typed in or bulk sent: Light, $12 a month for 1 sender.
SignWell, through Zapier: the same Light plan, plus 75 API documents after the 25 free ones, up to $63.75 at the $0.85 starting rate, plus your Zapier plan.
DocsAutomator: Professional, $29 a month for 100 documents, with signing and every team member included. No Zapier needed.
Billed yearly, SignWell Light is $10 a month and DocsAutomator Professional is $19. US list prices on October 24, 2026.
